ESC SOCCER FIRST PROGRAM

What is Soccer First? Who is the Soccer First Program for?

The Soccer First Program is an Edina Soccer Club initiative to provide a weekly training session leading to a tournament/showcase event during the November – March timeframe. This initiative is beyond the team environment for players on the 1st and 2nd teams in the U13-U18 age groups.

Soccer First players are players who would consider soccer their primary sport of choice, are looking to do additional training with fellow ESC players with similar commitment, and who attend their own team training in addition to the Soccer First training session. The Soccer First Program will attend one tournament or showcase event.

What will the training sessions consist of? Is this just more of the same from my team environment?

No. Soccer First groups will be working towards an event in February/March timeframe. Therefore, the training sessions will be on a fast track to unite the group and work on functional training and positional needs in order to prepare for competition. Players should expect this to be a similar situation to what our US National Teams players go through at training camp in preparation for the World Cup. Players will be asked to have a growth mindset in positional play and training philosophy outside of their own team training environment.

What is the Cost?

The Soccer First program is an additional cost for each player (outside of their team fees).

Families will be asked to register their intent to participate, and then billed for the training fee.

The cost should be viewed in four buckets:

1) Training fees (club coach/facilities) approximately $25 per session, billed prior to the start of sessions.

2) Tournament/showcase application fees and coach fee/travel costs are estimated at $250-300 per player (billed separately from training fees only to those traveling).

3) Each families’ own travel expenses* (flight (where applicable)/local transportation/hotel 2-3 nights) estimated $1400.00 (families can choose to chaperone or share hotel/other costs)

*U13/U14 travel event will likely be Kansas/St Louis driving distance. Flights are not required, families can choose to drive.

Futsal

Futsal is an indoor soccer game played all over the world by everyone from amateur street players to professional and national team players competing in world tournaments, like the FIFA World Cup! The name "FUTSAL" comes from the Portuguese term, "futebol de salao", which can be translated as "hall football" or "indoor football". Unlike other forms of indoor soccer, the game is played on a hard court surface with lines for boundaries instead of walls or boards, and with a smaller ball that has less bounce than a regular soccer ball. The demanding surface, and the harder ball create a game that reinforces proper techniques, places an emphasis on improvisation, and rewards creativity. In addition to being a great tool for technical and tactical development, futsal is an extremely fast-paced and fun game that all players should have the chance to experience.
