Referees Needed!

In order to assure that there is a full crew assigned to every match for our soccer club, we need more referees. Adults: this is a great way to spend time with your kids while making money!

The Minnesota State Referee Committee has made some changes to the new referee process:

  • All new referee requirements can be completed ONLINE at
  • There is no in-person clinic!
  • You can complete the process at your own pace, all online.
  • New Referee certification is good all the way through December 31, 2021 (as is any certification done earlier in 2020).

You can earn anywhere between $25-$70 a game.
Refereeing is a great way to stay active and involved in the game.
If you have any questions, please contact either Bill Garner or Tyler Dalsin, ESC's representatives at
MAT Assigning, and/or visit ESC's Referee webpage.

ESC Training Resumes January 4

ESC has sent families information about the changes to training protocols based on the now-revised January 5th Youth Sports Guidance from the MN Department of Health. Revised game schedules for ESC teams currently playing in a competitive league have also been released.

ESC team practices are following the schedule they already had beginning January 4 2021: any minor changes have already been communicated to teams.

Finalized Soccer First training groups and training dates have also been communicated to families.

Return to Competition Protocols

For Fall 2020 U9-U14 play: please read the TCSL Return to Competition Protocol for more information about league play this fall. There is an excellent TCSL summary of safety plan for Fall 2020 HERE.

You can also read the TCSL and MYSA Return to Play documents, both updated as of June 22, 2020.

Even more! Here's a great timeline of return to play for youth sports from the MN Dept of Health and MSHSL: specifically about a gradual return to play between clubs/communities beginning in late July 2020.

From the MN Dept of Health and MN Amateur Sports Commission: Click HERE for additional specific guidance on youth sports around masking and protocols when there is an exposure among our athletes or staff.

Weather Protocol for Spring/Summer

Normal soccer season weather procedures are in place - assume training is ON, unless a message is posted on the ESC Home Page by 3pm daily.

If an early session gets canceled due to storms - we may still be able to have a later session if the storm passes. Be alert to messages via email.

30 minute wait per standard weather procedure for lightning.

Should there be severe weather during an evening session, we will handle per the protocol below:

ESC Implements Zero Tolerance Policy on Referee Abuse

This policy has been developed to address the growing (and unfortunate) trend of referee abuse in youth sports, in general, and youth soccer, in particular.  Our policy, as set forth in the document below, is simple: Any physical or verbal abuse of referees is as unacceptable as physical or verbal abuse of players.  It is never acceptable for spectators to criticize referees, verbally or otherwise, at an ESC event.

See the link below to view the new policy in it's entirety.
