Training Program

NEW ESC Training Program

Edina Soccer Club is proud to present a one-of-a-kind approach to year-round soccer and athletic development!

Why has the club created this program?

Is this new training program optional or is it a part of the overall ESC program?

The club has decided to incorporate this new training program into the overall program for players hence the fees will be all inclusive.  While making this decision, we considered the average costs that families have been paying for various soccer skill development programs and our goal was to stay in-line with those costs or reduce them which we feel we have accomplished.  We also considered the needs of multi-sport athletes (those kids who want to participate in other winter activities and/or play sports like hockey, basketball or skiing, for example) by designing a flexible program that provides up to 4 or 5 soccer training options per week on different days at different times so that everyone has the opportunity of accessing the training program.

As you know, the players and parents in our soccer membership have chosen a competitive club because they want to play at a higher level and have the opportunity to enhance their skills and win games.  This new training program has been designed with that player/parent requirement in mind.  Due to the financial commitment we had to make for venues [up to nine months in advance in some cases!] and our commitment to do all we can to develop players' soccer skills, we are convinced that this is the right direction and there will be no option to separate the training program costs from the overall player fees.

Is there a limit on how many times a player can attend training sessions at their age?

Players can attend as many of the Age Group Training, Strength and Conditioning, Winter Skills, Open Gym, Futsal, and Goal Keeper Training sessions offered at their age as they like!

The Academy program for U11-U14 is available to all Edina Soccer Club players on the following teams: U11C2, U12C1, U13C1, and U14C1.

When do the new training sessions start?

The week of November 5 is when the new training sessions begin.  The age-specific schedules on the web site include training session dates, times and locations through the end of February.  A schedule for training sessions for March through the first week of May will be published soon.  Dates MAY be subject to change.  Please check back regularly for any updates.

How do I find out the dates and times for the training sessions for my age?

Minimum Winter Requirements:

"Winter" is defined as the period of time between November 6 and February 29.

Activities to meet the minimum do not include Indoor Winter League Games but Coerver sessions and team scrimmages DO count.  See links below for Coerver information.

U9/U10 = 12 activities

U11C2 (Top Team) and U12 C1 = 12 activities

C2/C3 players @ U11-U18 = 10 activities

C1 players @ U13-U18 = 15 activities

A club coach/trainer CANNOT change what the club sets as the minimum requirement, but can definately suggest an expected level above the minimum. The coach should NOT punish a player who only makes the CLUB recommended minimum amount.

Premier TEam Coaches will deal with Winter Requirements under the guidance of the Directors of Coaching.
